The Lance Corporal Underground

The Lance Corporal Underground

The Lance Corporal Underground

There are two information systems in the Marine Corps.

The first is the chain of command.

The second somehow knew three hours ago.

Nobody knows exactly where the Lance Corporal Underground begins. Maybe somebody heard something outside the company office. Maybe Gunny said half a sentence near the smoke pit. Maybe a roommate knows a guy whose buddy works at battalion.

Whatever the source, by the time the official word finally arrives, half the barracks has already discussed it, disputed it, misunderstood it, corrected it, and made weekend plans around it.

The Truth Behind the Joke

Every unit seems to develop its own unofficial intelligence network.

The information may pass through five Marines, two roommates, a group chat, somebody in supply, and one mysterious guy who always seems to know everything.

And the most dangerous sentence in the military may still be:

“I heard from a guy who heard it from a Gunny…”

Because somehow that can be complete nonsense—

or tomorrow’s formation brief.

The Lance Corporal Underground doesn't promise accuracy.

It promises speed.

Field Note

Not everything travels through the proper channels.

Some information takes the chain of command.

Some information takes the shortest route to the smoke pit.

And somehow, the lance corporals usually hear both.

If you know, you know.
